I would like to tell you a little bit about my skills, my experience and myself.
I became a Social Worker in 1988 after getting a BA in Sociology and Psychology. I worked at Lake County Health department as a mental health counselor for 5 years while receiving my master’s degree at Jane Addams College of Social Work at the University of Illinois at Chicago. I went on to work at Maine Center for Mental Health, which is a Community Mental Health Center. At Maine Center, I Supervised, a Community Integrated Living Arrangement, which provided supervised housing and life skills for those suffering with chronic mental illness. During this same time I also worked as a Crisis Intervention Specialist. My interest in social work grew out of having a family member who suffered with mental illness. I saw first hand how painful it could be both on the individual and the family trying in earnest to help. I didn’t always know how I could help, but I came to know I wanted to help.
After having my first child, I went back to Maine Center part-time as an outpatient psychotherapist. In the time that I worked at Maine Center, I worked with a very diverse population. I am grateful for my experience at Maine Center which provided me with being able to work with individuals who needed the collaboration of many to provide health and wellness, food, housing, medication, access to care, public aid, and medicare to name a few.
After me second child, I returned to work at Lutheran General Hospital. At LGH, I worked in the emergency room performing, psychiatric/substance abuse assessments, this also included assessing and providing support for child abuse, domestic abuse, and sexual abuse. In addition, I worked on both the Adolescent and Adult inpatient units and the adult day hospital program. I have been fortunate to be involved in all levels of care and after care which provided the groundwork for me to go into private practice. I have been in private practice since 2009 and I have been a principle owner of the Counseling Group of the North Shore LLC since 2011.
I AM A VERY INTERACTIVE AND RESULT ORIENTED PSYCHOTHERAPIST.
My goal is to provide you the practical skills to live a balanced life that is both peaceful and unburdened by anxiety, stress panic and depression.
Here is my vision for you. I want you to imagine not having a knot in your stomach, or sweating, shaking, or being short of breathe. Imagine not feeling like your world is crashing down. Imagine not pretending you are fine on the outside while you are terrified on the inside. Imagine not spending all your energy trying to wade through all your thoughts
I have been trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Anxiety and Depression, and specialize in the treatment of Anxiety. I work with both Adults and Couples providing both Short and Long-Term Psychotherapy. At times it is hard to believe how privileged I have been to work in the field I am passionate about for the last 30 years. On a personal note, I have been married for 25 years and have 2 adult children. I enjoy my 2 dogs, exercise and paddle tennis.
It is important to remember that Anxiety, Stress, Panic and depression are very treatable. You are not broken, and most people who suffer from anxiety are able to reduce how they are feeling after several months of therapy. The people I work with share with me that just talking about how they have been feeling for so long makes a huge difference.
You are not broken.
